Policy: BE—School Board Meetings

The Board will transact all business at official meetings of the Board. These may be either regular or special meetings.

Regular Meetings of the Board:

The regular meetings of the Board of Education shall be held in accordance with the Board established annual meeting schedule. Upon a majority vote of the members present, any regular meeting may be adjourned or postponed to such time and place as the Board of Education shall deem expedient.

Special Meetings:

Special meetings of the Board, to consider specified topics, may be called by the president, or in the absence of the president by the vice-president, or by three (3) members of the Board.

Public Access:

Every meeting of the Board, regular or special, will be open to the public except for an executive session which is held in accordance with state law.

Public meetings of the Board shall generally be held within the geographic boundaries of the School District. However, the Board may hold a public meeting outside of the geographic boundaries of the District to conduct a site visit related to the Board’s responsibilities. The Board may not vote or take formal action at any meeting held outside the geographic boundaries of the School District.

A Quorum:

Three (3) members of the Board compose a quorum with power to transact business, and in the event that the president and vice-president are not present, a chairman shall be elected to preside at the meeting.

Voting:

The yeas and nays may be called for on any question or in the adoption of any report, and if any member requires, it shall be entered on the minutes.
