Emery County School District
Policy: IHDA - Community School Programs
Date Adopted: 20 April 1988
Current Review / Revision: 17 June 1998
Community school programs will be offered through the Emery County School District as long as funding is available. Community school programs shall:
-
emphasize the utilization of professional services of community school coordinators and/or directors and shall reflect coordination with plans for extended year, extended day, and summer programs;
-
contain an evaluation component; and
-
assure record keeping and accounting in harmony with regulations promulgated by the State Board of Education for regular school programs.
The community school concept is based on the fundamental premise that the public schools belong to the people, and that local resources can be harnessed to address and resolve community problems. The community centered school, utilizing the existing facilities of the public schools, provides a program of community education for all ages. Shops, classrooms, gymnasiums, playgrounds and equipment are made available to the entire community, thus reducing the need to construct new facilities.
