Emery County School District

Policy: EBBD—Water Systems Safety

Date Adopted: 12 February 2002

Current Review / Revision: 12 February 2002

The Emery County School District is responsible for insuring that the District’s public drinking water system is protected from cross connections.

A cross connection is defined as “any actual or potential connection between a potable water system and any other source or system through which it is possible to introduce into the public drinking water system any used water, industrial fluids, gas, or any substance other than the intended potable water.

The State of Utah requires that protective devices and assemblies are in place and working, and that they are tested annually by a certified technician. Inspections of water systems shall be made annually to ensure that changes in the water systems are safe and that the public drinking water is protected. If a hazardous situation exists or may exist, the certified technician shall notify the owner or principal of the water system of that problem, or potential problem exists that may cause a pollutant to enter into the public drinking water system. It will be the owner’s responsibility to take action to see that the problem is properly taken care of.

The Emery County School District will keep all required records, and insure that testing is done by a certified technician, and all assemblies and devices are installed by a certified technician. All repairs and replacements will be done in a timely manner by a certified technician to ensure that they are in compliance with the State and Federal Law which governs cross connections.

Repairs will only be made with approved parts. At no time will a device be taken out of service without the approval of the technician or the water purveyor. When an assembly is found to be not working properly, the water purveyor and the owner shall be notified. The repairs shall be made as soon as feasibly possible.
