Emery County School District
Policy: IHCA - Summer School
Date Adopted: 7 September 1988
Current Review / Revision: 17 June 1998
The Board may sponsor summer school programs for students who need developmental, remedial, or make-up work in basic skills, academic courses, and vocational areas. These sessions may also include courses designed for enrichment.
Summer school will be financed by public funds, collection of student fees, or a combination of the two. Secondary students placed in summer school programs for remedial instruction in accordance with Education Code 53G-9 will be required to pay fees to cover the cost of such instruction.
The summer school curriculum will be established in line with the needs of students and in accordance with regulations established by the State Board of Education. Remedial courses and make-up courses will provide opportunities for students to qualify for promotion or graduation and receive credit in the areas and subjects where previous work has not met promotion or graduation credit.
Transportation to and from a summer program will be the responsibility of the parents or guardians. All summer programs and student fees will be subject to annual approval by the Board.
