Policy: IHBD—Remedial Instruction
Date Adopted: 7 September 1988
Current Review / Revision: 17 June 1998
In accordance with the requirements of Education Code 53G-9-803, remedial programs shall be available for secondary students who have not met competency levels in English, mathematics, science, and social studies. Participation in the program is mandatory for students failing to meet competency levels based on classroom performance. Students requiring remediation under this policy may not be advanced to the next class in the subject sequence until they meet the required competency level for the subject or complete the required remediation program.
This remediation program may be conducted as part of the regular school program, or may be included in a summer school program.
Students requiring remediation under this policy will be required to pay a fee to participate. The fee will be determined annually by the Board and will be levied so as to cover the costs of the remediation program.
